He had been exonerated by DNA evidence. He had received a small settlement. He had spent it all on this moment. He did not want money. He wanted an apology.

The caterer was a small woman named Sofia. She had spent three days on that cake. She had borrowed money for the ingredients. The bride had written a check, but the groom had stopped payment. “We decided to go with another vendor,” he had said. “But thanks for the sample.” Sofia had smiled.
