In screenwriting, a great antagonist needs either a full subplot or a single defining scene. Amazing Spider-Man 2 tries to give everyone both and ends up giving neither. The Rhino appears in the opening (fun, but irrelevant) and the closing (a cliffhanger that feels tacked on). This robs the final act of its emotional purity.
