For the global Bengali-speaking population—spanning West Bengal (India) and Bangladesh, along with a vast diaspora—this shift has created a complex, hybrid media landscape. This paper examines the evolution of searching for Bengali entertainment content, analyzing the transition from traditional broadcast media (Doordarshan, Bangladesh Television) to on-demand digital platforms. It explores key drivers such as smartphone penetration, affordable data plans, and algorithmic recommendations. The study identifies major content categories (film, music, television serials, web originals, news) and dominant platforms (YouTube, Hoichoi, Addatimes, Chorki, social media). Furthermore, it discusses challenges including content discoverability, piracy, linguistic diversity (dialects vs. standard Bengali), and the algorithmic marginalization of regional content. The paper concludes that while digital access has democratized Bengali media, search behaviors are increasingly shaped by platform logics that both empower and constrain cultural production. 1.
