Maya stared at the PDF on her screen—. Fourteen years old, but still the bible for lightweight concrete. Her boss had grunted, “Figure out why the deck’s failing,” before leaving for lunch.

Maya highlighted the line, attached the PDF to an email, and typed: “213R-14, Section 5.3. The answer was here all along. We just didn’t read carefully.”

That was it. The contractor had used lightweight aggregate but ignored that note. The top of the parking garage had curled just enough—less than an inch—to snap two tension cables last night.
